A hands-on workshop designed to kickstart and troubleshoot any improvement project. Build skills that get results.

Modeled after the highly successful Integrated Nurse Leadership Program (INLP) , this boot camp leverages the same theory of change model, curriculum, and tools that made the INLP program so successful. The workshop will focus on building integral skills to move any improvement project forward.  

Learning Objectives

Each day incorporates didactic presentation, time for reflection, peer sharing, group work, role-play, and activities for integrating material.

Day 1

  1. Develop a working knowledge of change management principles.
  2. Learn how to create an inspiring vision and sense of urgency around your project.
  3. Explore the fundamentals of the Model for Improvement, including how to set smart goals and conduct PDSA cycles.
  4. Learn how to apply LEAN principles to enhance reliability.

Day 2

  1. Explore the critical role of data for driving change.
  2. Discover project management essentials to keep your project on-track.
  3. Discover the fundamentals of building high performing teams.
  4. Learn strategic communication techniques to enhance stakeholder engagement.

Pre-Work Requirement

Registrants will prepare for the workshop by identifying an improvement project that they want to kickstart. This can be a new project, a project that is under-performing, or a project that has failed to launch.   Participants will develop a brief narrative outlining the challenge and will submit the narrative at least on week prior to the workshop.  If registrants need help in identifying an appropriate challenge, please email workshops@myicln.org.

Presenters

Julie Kliger, MPA, BSN, RN

Over the last 26 years Julie Kliger has established herself as a leading voice for patient safety and improved outcomes. Her work in addressing practice redesign in healthcare has been nationally recognized for achievements in reducing medication administration error and sepsis mortality.
Ms. Kliger's most recent work concentrates on the critically important work of healthcare’s frontline clinicians. With the support of the University of California at San Francisco's Center for Health Professions and funding through the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation she has launched a new nonprofit Integrated Care Leadership Network (ICLN), which began as an $18 million, multi-year/multi-system project (The Integrated Nurse Leadership Program) where she acted as Program Director.
In addition to the above noted work, Ms. Kliger is also working with the California Association of Public Hospitals as the statewide sepsis consultant, Stanford University’s Clinical Excellence Research Center as coach to the Fellows, and Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) as a faculty member.
Ms. Kliger completed her Master's in Public Administration at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government where she focused on patient safety and error reduction policies. She holds a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Columbia University in New York City and a Bachelor’s of Arts from UC Berkeley.

CEU Information

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 15505 for 7.0 contact hours per day through the UCSF Center for the Health Professions Integrated Nurse Leadership Program and funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

A post workshop evaluation survey must be completed to receive credits.
